On Saturday, June 15th, 2013, Motuphi jumped from the Belle Isle bridge to "go for a swim". Many who don't know the history of the bridge don't know that there's a strong undercurrent responsible for the deaths of more than half of the people who've jumped from it over the years. Motuphi knew of this undercurrent and tested fate on occasions before with previous dives from the bridge. But, this time, he never resurfaced. His now famous last words were again repeated before this jump: "If God wants me to live, I'll be one of the few who survives the undercurrent". This is a statement he made on all previous jumps that he survived without incident.
I promised I'd release the name of his guitar goddess if he hurt himself. Now, he may be dead. Many have taken to searching for him on the shores of the river beyond the Belle Isle bridge. In most cases, the bodies of those who jumped from the bridge washed up on shore miles south of the island. "We hope to find him alive" stated one searcher through her tears.
If he's dead, it won't much matter to him that the identity of the object of his affection has been revealed. But many wanted to know who she was and I believe I have the riddle solved. Her name was Jessie Bobenmoyer of the Christian Rock band Hail Your Highness. Motuphi wrote her songs in attempts to connect with her. Many believe it was just to join her band because he was bored, but there was obviously something more to it than that.
I saved the videos to those songs Motuphi wrote to and about Jessie, all except for one ("Circus") that he never sent out to his mailing list subscribers. For that video, I just used some photos I downloaded from his old music profiles and the mp3 he sent out as the audio.
The following posts are songs to Jessie from Motuphi.
